Introduction:

Japan simplest and most traditional food is probably onigiri (rice balls). If you just grilled them with soy sauce, then rice balls are transformed into yaki onigiri (grilled rice balls). They have a nice smokey smell, a crispy outside but the inside is still soft. On top of that, grilled corn is also a very simple dish. You can enjoy the combination of the sweetness of the corn itself and the salty soy sauce flavor.

Ingredients:

Original Grilled Rice Ball Recipe

  • 80 to 100 grams cooked sticky rice
  • Tamari Soy sauce (enough to coat the surface of the rice ball)

    Option 1 : Cheese Grilled Rice Ball (Vegetarian recipe) for 1 person

    • 80 to 100 grams cooked sticky rice
    • Tamari Soy sauce (enough to coat the surface of the rice ball)
    • 1 cube of cheese for each rice ball (any cheese is fine)

    Option 2 : Vegetable Grilled Rice Ball (Vegetarian recipe) for 2 people

    • 150 grams cooked sticky rice
    • 1 bell pepper
    • 1/2 carrot
    • 1 can tuna flakes
    • cheese to taste
    • salmon roe for serving
    • 1 to 2 tablespoons potato or corn starch
    • salt and pepper

    Grilled Corn

    • 2 ears of corn
    • ※ 20 grams butter
    • tamari soy sauce (enough to coat the surface)

    ☆If you don't have tamari soy sauce, it's OK to use regular soy sauce.

    ※If you would like to avoid dairy products, this can be taken out of the recipe completely or olive oil can be a substitute.

    Instructions:

    Original Grilled Rice Balls

    1. Cook the sticky rice and press them into the shape of a triangle in the same was as making a big meat ball.
    2. If you use your hands to make the rice balls, put water to your hands to make them a little wet.
    3. You can also use clear wrap to keep your hands clean.
    4. Rice balls are usually triangle shaped, but any shape is OK. Even a round rice ball tastes good.

    Grilled Rice Ball.

    1. Put the rice balls onto a grill or fly pan and grill the surface of the rice ball.
    2. Spread soy sauce by spoon on one side of the rice ball as it is grilling.
    3. Before you flip it, spread soy sauce on the other side.
    4. It is OK to spread soy sauce a few times, because it will become a nice golden brown the surface will become crispy.

    Option 1

    1. The process is the same as the original grilled rice ball.
    2. The only difference is that a cheese cube is placed within the rice ball.
    3. The grilling process is the same as the original grilled rice ball.

    Option 2

    1. Chop the bell pepper and carrot.
    2. Mix the bell pepper, carrot, caned tuna flakes and cheese all together in a bowl.
    3. Add salt and pepper as well as potato or corn before mixing together everything.
    4. Add this mixture to the rice and make a rice ball, then put the rice ball on a girl or a fry pan and cook it until it turns a nice golden brown.

    Grilled Corn

    1. Put corn onto a grill or a fry pan.
    2. When it's almost cooked, put butter and soy sauce on its surface and grill them until they are completely cooked.
