About Marumata:

Marumata Shoten (Store) is located in Taketoyo Town in Chita-gun, Aichi Prefecture. Marumata Store is about a 7 minute walk from the Taketoyo terminal of JR Taketoyo line, and it is known as a production area for tamari soy sauce. There are also other soy sauce breweries in that area. Taketomi town is located on the waterfront area of Mikawa Bay, which is known for the Japanese fairy tale "Urashima Taro." There are still places in the area that are named after that story such as "Urashima," "Ryugu" and "Otohime Bridge."

Marumata Store was founded in 1829. They have been producing soy sauce in wooden barrels, which is the traditional manufacturing method, for 200 years without changing. In 1989 they were certified by the Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA) and in 1999 they were certified by the Organic Certification Organization (Eccert). Also, in 2001, they were certified by Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) board. In 2002, Tomoyasu Deguchi, who is the ninth generation of the Deguchi family, was appointed as the sixth generation representative of Marumata Store.

Marumata's leading products are “Organic tamari,” using organic soybeans certified by organic certified organizations in Japan, Europe and America, “Owari no Tamari,” using domestic soybeans from Aichi prefecture, and “Whole Soybean Tamari.” All of the above products are made without using wheat or barley, so people with wheat and gluten allergy can also enjoy the products.
